arise to minimize their impact on the health and economy of the world's
population."
The Global Outbreak Alert and Response Network (GOARN) is a technical
collaboration of existing institutions and networks who pool human and
technical resources for the rapid identification, confirmation and response to
outbreaks of international importance.
The Weekly Epidemiological Record
(WER) serves as an essential instrument for the rapid and accurate
dissemination of epidemiological information on cases and outbreaks of diseases
under the International Health Regulations and on other communicable diseases
of public health importance, including the newly emerging or re-emerging
infections.
The WER is distributed every Friday
in a bilingual English/French edition.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is recognized as
the lead federal agency for protecting the health and safety of people - at

and promoting health through strong partnerships.
The MMWR weekly contains data on specific
diseases as reported by state and territorial health departments and reports on
infectious and chronic diseases, environmental hazards, natural or
human-generated disasters, occupational diseases and injuries, and intentional
